Cocktail hour featuring sonorous sounds of Dinshaw

Dinner will be prepared by Ben Walmer and the reknowned farm-to-table social experiment: Highlands Dinner Club.

The Highlands Dinner Club is a mobile culinary and social laboratory in which participants collaboratively design and execute events and menus relevant to location and occasion and built from locally produced ingredients. It was launched unintentionally in Heather and Jake's kitchen in 2009 beginning with some amazing venison and an intense discussion on the historical/cultural importance of Michael Jackson. Heather dubbed the motto of HDC: food makes friends.

Then the night continues with featured entertainment from: Sammy Miller and the Congregation. Fronted by Sammy Miller, a native of Los Angeles, Sammy Miller has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that “feels good” as a drummer and bandleader. At the ripe old age of 21, Sammy has performed/recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Christian Scott, Bobby Watson, David Benoit, Ozomotli, and Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens—at venues across the globe, including the White House, the Bern Jazz Festival, and the Hollywood Bowl. In the Jazz World, Sam has been recognized with a number of honors, including the Los Angeles Jazz Society’s Shelly Manne Award, the Dolo Coker Scholarship, and the 2009 Los Angeles Music Center’s Spotlight Award. Upon completing his undergraduate degree from the The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Sammy now resides in New York, where he is pursuing his Master’s in Music at The Juilliard School.

The band features:
SoniaKreitzer, vocals
Levon Henry, sax,
Linton Smith, trumpet
Franky Rousseau, guitar
And the one and only Fred Thomas, long time James Brown bassist. As one of the most sampled bass players in the world, the Fred Thomas sound is like no other and has a very special place in R&B history. In 1971, Fred joined the by then legendary James Brown band,"I never dreamed I'd be playing with James Brown. I got to NYC from Georgia in 1966 and started playing all over town. I always had a tight band." Fred went on to make history with James Brown after replacing Bootsy Collins. He would go on to be one of the most prolific and consistently charting period in the "Godfather's incredible career. Further highlighting Fred Thomas's significance in contemporary popular music is the fact that many of his basline have become a samplers playground causing the godfather of soul himself to declare Fred "the most sampled bass player in the world."
